Why I Love Fate of the World
I love Fate of the World because it is one of the most unusual and detailed strategy games I have played. Instead of conquering the planet, the challenge is trying to manage it.
The game places you in control of a global organization and challenges you to balance climate change, energy, food, population, economic development, technology and the needs of different regions around the world. Your decisions can have consequences decades into the future.
What makes the game particularly fascinating to me is its connection to real climate science. Fate of the World was developed by Red Redemption with climate science from Professor Myles Allen of the University of Oxford. Its simulation incorporates real-world research while still functioning as a strategy game.
There are more than 100 major policies covering areas such as energy, geoengineering, economics, international aid, forestry, health and technological research, alongside more than 1,000 potential impacts and events.
I especially enjoy the challenge of seeing how much of humanity’s impact on the Earth’s climate we can actually control while still keeping societies functioning and developing.
My goal is to eventually play all of the Fate of the World missions and scenarios and bring the campaigns, strategies and lessons I discover together here on Persicus Imperium.
